The Election Commission of India has stated that the biennial elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats together with six in Maharashtra, shall be held on February 27.

The states going to the RS polls are: Uttar Pradesh (10 seats), Maharashtra and Bihar (six every), Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal (5 every), Gujarat and Karnataka (4 every), Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Rajasthan (three every), Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand (one seat every).

The elections are being held to replenish the seats after the time period of the 56 incumbents finish in early April.

The election notification will probably be issued on February 8, the final date for submitting nominations is February 15, scrutiny will probably be accomplished on February 16 and the final date for withdrawals shall be February 20.

The polling shall be held on February 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., adopted by the counting of votes, and the election course of shall be accomplished by February 29, stated the ECI.
