Taking a dig on the Union authorities, the Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Tuesday stated the BJP “wants to take credit for the proposed Women’s Reservation Bill despite the fact it was the Congress that first dreamt of it”.

Bajwa stated the BJP should know that “the Women’s Reservation Bill is the brainchild of the Congress”. It was former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who in May 1989 launched the Constitution Amendment Bill to offer one-third reservation for ladies in rural and concrete native our bodies.

The Bill could not get handed within the Rajya Sabha in September 1989.
