Chandigarh: Frightened by the peaceful agitation waged by farmers in the country against the agricultural laws for the last one year, the government is itself now creating turmoil to make the peaceful atmosphere volatile. The Haryana government gave proof of its arrogance by charging batons on peacefully protesting farmers near Karnal yesterday.
Dozens of farmers were seriously injured in the brutal baton charge on them by the Haryana police. One elderly farmer died.
At a special meeting held here today, the Kirti Kisan Forum condemned the brutal lathicharge on farmers. The meeting was presided by Mr Swaran Singh Boparai and Mr R .I Singh, both former senior IAS officers. Before passing the resolution condemning the excesses committed on farmers, all the former officers observed a two minute silence to pay tribute to the martyred farmer.
The resolution passed at the meeting condemned the unwarranted lathicharge on a peaceful gathering of farmers. The resolution made it clear that immediate disciplinary action should be taken against the concerned SDM and police officer for discharging their duties in an undemocratic, cruel and irresponsible manner.
A resolution was also passed requesting the Haryana Government to provide free medical treatment to all the workers / farmers injured in the police lathicharge and to provide adequate compensation to the heirs of the martyred elderly farmer.
Members of Kirti Kisan Forum have also decided to give their full support to the peaceful Kisan Andolan.
