The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur held a special meeting with the pracharaks (preachers) on Thursday and directed them to start a series of Gurmat Samagams (religious congregations) dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadar.
During the meeting held at SGPC’s headquarter Teja Singh Samundri Hall, SGPC junior vice-president Baba Buta Singh, general secretary Bhagwant Singh Sialka, and chief secretary Harjinder Singh Dhami were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the contribution of the preachers for flourishing the Sikh faith is very important and the role of the SGPC’s preachers for the communication of the ideology of Gurmat (teachings of the Sikh Gurus) among the Sangat has been commendable.
“Due to COVID-19, the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib could not be celebrated on a grand scale. Therefore, the SGPC’s executive committee has decided to start a series of Gurmat Samagams now. A grand function would be held in every constituency before which the preachers Singhs would conduct ceremonies in all the villages of that constituency. At the same time, efforts will be made to connect the sangat with Gurmat by holding big events in states outside Punjab”, Bibi Jagir Kaur.
She said that it has been decided by the executive committee that the granthis in the villages who are devoted to the code of conduct (Rehat Maryada) of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and who would give Santhiya (lessons on pure reciting and grammar of Gurbani) of Gurbani to at least 10 persons would be given a monthly allowance of Rs 2, 000.
She said that in this regard the preachers should find out the granthis from the villages who have themselves took Santhiya and can give the same to the children.
SGPC chief secretary Harjinder Singh Dhami also addressed during the meeting and he motivated the preachers to take the philosophy of the Gurus to every house.
Others present during the meeting included Dharam Prachar Committee assistant secretary Simarjeet Singh and Gurmeet Singh Buttar, OSDs to SGPC president Dr Amrik Singh and Dr Sukhbir Singh, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, in-charge Kartar Singh, head preachers Bhai Jaswinder Singh Sahur, Bhai Jagdev Singh, Bhai Sarabjit Singh Dhotia, and a large number of preachers were present.
