Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) celebrated the Foundation Day of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal authority of Sikh Qaum (nation), with devotion on Saturday.

On this occasion, after the bhog (concluding ceremony) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, the raagi jatha of Bhai Simarpreet Singh sang Gurbani Kirtan and the holy hukamnama was recited by Giani Malkeet Singh.

In his address on this occasion, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh while congratulating the Sangat on Foundation Day of the highest temporal authority of Sikhs, said that established by Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Sikh Guru (master), Sri Akal Takht Sahib is not just a building for the Sikh Qaum but it is true and pure concept, which embodied the sovereign existence of the Qaum.

Appealing to entire Sikh Qaum to forget their political differences and unite under the Nishan (flag) of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedar said that if we want to break the shackles of our subjugation, then we have to come together under one Nishan (flag) and one vidhan (constitution) and work with unity for the Charhdi Kala (rising spirit) of the Qaum. On this occasion, he urged the Sikh world to adopt the lifestyle blessed by the Guru and to set life guidelines according to Gurbani.

Those present on this occasion included SGPC executive committee member S. Harjap Singh, member Bhai Ajaib Singh, head granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Bhai Malkeet Singh, additional secretary S. Partap Singh, assistant secretary S. Balwinder Singh, S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, S. Gurmeet Singh Buttar, S. Nirvail Singh, S. Gurcharan Singh, Lakhbir Singh, S. Paramjit Singh, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib S. Sulakhan Singh, federation leader Amarbir Singh, honorary secretary S. Gurmeet Singh, superintendent Malkit Singh, manager S. Baghel Singh, S. Sukhraj Singh, S. Narinder Singh, additional manager S. Nishan Singh, S. Jaspal Singh and the Sangat were present.

Meanwhile, a Kirtan Darbar was also organised dedicated to Foundation Day of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Friday evening, in which, prominent among Panth raagi jathas sang Kirtan with traditional string instruments and the Sangat enjoyed the same.
