CHANDIGARH: In a big jolt to BJP, over half a dozen senior Punjab BJP leaders have submitted their resignations from the party to protest against anti-farmer stand of center government and negative role played by state BJP leadership during the farmer agitation. More resignations are expected in next days.
Those resigned from BJP are Harjit Singh Bhullar vice president of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh Punjab and President Bhartiya Tibat Sahyog Sangh Punjab, Sukhpal Singh Nannu former MLA, Master Mohan Lal former BJP minister and few others. Former Minister Anil Joshi had already submitted his resignation on the farmers issue.
Joshi and Bhullar would be joining Shiromani Akali (SAD) in the presence of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal in SAD head office in Sector 28 Chandigarh. Master Mohan Lal who is also vocal in criticising BJP centeral leadership on handling of farmer’s issue may also join SAD, it is learnt.
Joshi and Bhullar have blamed the state BJP president Ashwani Sharma and national general secretary Harjit Singh Grewal for misleading the central igh command and annoying the farmers with their provocative statements. Bhullar said that he was disturbed over maltreatment being meted to farmers sitting on Delhi border for the last over six months. He said that Punjab BJP leaders took anti-farmer stand and it led to strong anti-BJP wave in Punjab.
Nannu however has clarified that he was resigning on farmers issue but not joining any other party. He said that BJP was not serving national interest by supressing farmers and by not accepting their demand of scrapping farm laws
