The Tamil Nadu Assembly session, which can begin on Monday, is slated to be stormy with the mixed opposition more likely to carry up the Cauvery challenge and the ‘failure’ of the state authorities to persuade Karnataka to offer satisfactory amount of the river water to the state.

The Kuruvai paddy farmers of Tamil Nadu are dealing with hardships as a consequence of scarcity of water in Mettur dam that provides water to the delta districts, together with the rice bowl of the state, Thanjavur.

The Mettur dam reported on Saturday 32 ft of water as in opposition to the 120 ft capability it has. The lack of Cauvery water has led to the dip in storage within the Mettur dam and this has affected the Kuruvai farmers of the state.

Around two lakh hectares of Kuruvai cultivation has been affected because of the scarcity of water from Cauvery and the state authorities has introduced a compensation of Rs 5, 500 per acre for the Kuruvai paddy farmers whose crop suffered withering.

The opposition AIADMK, PMK and TMC have demanded a hike within the compensation quantity and are more likely to elevate the problem within the House to nook the federal government.

The AIADMK, in response to sources can be more likely to challenge the case of the Muslim prisoners in Tamil Nadu who’re languishing in prisons, together with the 1998 Coimbatore blast prisoners. The possible spat between the AIADMK and its former ally BJP may also be witnessed on this session of the House.

Tamil Nadu legislative secretariat sources instructed IANS that the period of the session might be determined by the Business Advisory Committee assembly which might be held after the presentation of the Supplementary estimates for the monetary 12 months 2023-24 by Tamil Nadu finance minister, Thangam Thenarasu.
