The Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) has strongly opposed the Haryana government’s demand to allocate separate land for its Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh.
Regarding this issue, SAD(Sanykut) has called a high-level meeting of party leaders on November 26. The meeting will be chaired by the party president and former Union Minister, S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.
The party is likely to bring a resolution against this unreasonable demand of Haryana and the party will also chalk out next strategy on this issue.
Divulging more details, issuing an official statement, the party’s chief spokesperson and former finance minister of Punjab, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that Haryana will not be allowed to construct separate assembly premises on the land of Chandigarh at any cost.
He said that Punjab has the full right to Chandigarh, which was settled after depopulating the villages of Punjab, and the Centre Congress governments have reneged on their promise to give Chandigarh to Punjab twice.
The Congress government which ruled at the Centre for 70 years had issued a formal communication and announced that Haryana will have its capital when the time comes and Chandigarh will be made the capital of Punjab, but by not doing so, the Congress government has betrayed Punjab, said S. Dhindsa.
He said that this issue has become quite complicated and the results of giving land to Haryana can prove to be fatal.
“We have requested Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi to intervene in this serious issue himself, and not to accept the proposal to allot 10 acres of land for the new Vidhan Sabha of Haryana and to give Chandigarh to Punjab, ” said S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
He said that the Haryana government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar should give up its claim on Chandigarh and build a separate High Court and Vidhan Sabha in a developed city of Haryana.
